Test your heart out for foreign language credit!

Dear Heritage or Advance Language Student,

Does it annoy you that your school only offers elementary courses or no courses at all in your language of interest? Would you like to receive credit for the langauge that you already know? Well it's possible. First check with your university to see if they grant credit for the CLEP test for Spanish, French and German students. The test costs about $70.00 per test (compare that to rising tuition). Depending on your test score you can receive up to about 12 undergraduate language credits.

If your university does not honor the CLEP tests, try ACTFL's OPI and LTI tests. They offer testing in over 30 languages. Depending on your score (there are 6 levels, novice low - superior) you can then determine according to ACE, how many credits your test results are worth.

Lastly, read Rutgers University's directions on teacher certification for Chinese teachers. This method should also work if you want to be certified in your state or receive credit in less commonly taught languages AND you already have advanced knowledge of the language.

Good luck!
